Should NASCAR add another restrictor plate track to the Sprint Cup Schedule to attract more appeal to the sport?

I feel that if they do this ratings and ticket sales would go up, and fans would get a chance to see an exciting race like at Daytona and Talladega.

What would be the effects of adding another restrictor plate track (excellent or terrible)?
Also, should NASCAR get rid of the restrictor plates, even though speeds would be over 220 mph?

I think it would be good as long as it wasn’t another cookie cutter typical super speedway. Something like a 3 mile long super high banked track with an unusual shape and be the fastest track on the circuit. And/or a couple of dirt track events would be awesome don’t you think? The cars would have to be identical body style as the asphalt track car but set up for dirt. 1 short track event on maybe a 3/4 mile dirt track and another super speedway dirt race on a 11/4 mile track. Id definitely be buying that ticket asap.

We need more short tracks!

I’m going to say no because there aren’t many more tracks that would suit restrictor plate racing. Plus, I know many people who are not fans of restrictor plate races because, for the most part, the racing is boring. There are always a few exciting laps and moments, but much of the race is just huge packs of cars making circles with nothing happening.

for one thing, they need to race at talladega at night.

and maybe even have a 1.5 mile track that has banking like Talladega or Daytona. that would be pretty interesting, but no plates.

First, someone would have to build a track that could support restrictor plate racing. I don’t know if any organization that could obtain that much financing. Many of the drivers are not fans of restrictor plate racing. Ticket sales are down for most of NASCAR’s tracks. WWherewould they put the track in the schedule? Which track would have to relinquish one of its races? Las Vegas and Kansas both want a second race.

NASCAR cannot get rid of the restrictor plates at Talladega and Daytona. The cars would be traveling too fast for the track. It would be very unsafe for the fans in the stands. The late Dale Earnhardt once said that they should move the stands back and let the drivers race unrestricted (I’m paraphrasing) at those tracks.

I believe fans and drivers would love to see another short track (perhaps very similar to Bristol) built and placed on the schedule. You would have some more great short track racing and please fans and drivers.

No. I don’t like restrictor plates at all. Speeds would hit 230 easy..Rusty Wallace tested a car at Talledega unrestricted. You can slow the cars aerodymamically. I don’t see how restrictor plate racing would increase ticket sales at all. At Daytona, they reduced the size of the restrictor plates. The schedule is so tight right now..where would you add another race?

They only reason they would do this is to please the Dale Earnhardt Jr nation, and to get him more races at tracks he likes, and possibly get him some more wins.

It was tossed around the last couple of years to add another Dega, and another Daytona date specifically to please Earnhardt.

That would certainly bring out 70% of NASCAR fans (Jr Nation) but would not be “good” racing.

A couple more short tracks and another road course are on my wish list.

I think so. Restrictor Plate races are a their own level of excitement. I mean, they are just outstanding to watch. I believe Talladega and Daytona racing is the most exciting thing in sports, possibly in the world. NASCAR should add another, maybe add plates to a fast track like Atlanta or California. Sure would make those tracks more exciting.
